Alera FAQs – Unite Remote Control

How do I unlock and lock the Remote Control?
A two-position key lock switch, located on the right side of the Remote Control, serves to prevent accidental activation. This feature is handy when the device is kept in a pants’ pocket or purse. When in the locked position all keys/buttons are non-functional. When switched to the non-locked position normal functionality is restored. When the key lock is activated, a key will appear on the screen when any button is pushed.

How wide is the operating range?
a.    The Remote Control operating range is approximately 150 cm (60 inches).
b.    In the event that the Remote Control cannot read out the status of the hearing instruments, search icons will appear on the Remote Control.

How do I change programs with the Remote Control?
The “P” button is used to change the programs that your hearing care professional has programmed into your hearing instruments. Each time you press the “P” button the program advances one step, returning back to program 1 at the end of each cycle (e.g. P1, P2, P3, P1). Each change in program is accompanied by tones in both hearing instruments, and the program currently in use is shown in the display.

How do I adjust the volume with the Remote Control?
The “+” and “-“ keys are used to adjust volume. Volume may be adjusted on both hearing instruments simultaneously or on each side independently. By default, both hearing instruments are “active” which is indicated in the display by two arrowheads (< and >) located next to the volume bars. Both hearing instruments can simultaneously be made louder by pressing the “+” key or softer by pressing the “-“ key. Each adjustment is accompanied by beep tones in the hearing instruments as well as a visual change in the volume bars shown in the display.

What is the step size for the volume control on the remote control?
The volume in the hearing instruments changes in 1.5 dB steps when using the volume control.

Why would the bars of the volume control look different for each ear in a binaural fitting?
If the volume control range is different for each device, the size of the bars for the volume for each ear will be different as well. For example, if one ear has a more severe hearing loss than the other and is near the limit of the fitting range (and the VC range is thereby reduced), the VC bars for that ear’s device will be wider than the VC bars for the other milder HL ear.

How do I change volume in one hearing aid only?
a.    To adjust volume on the left side only, first press the “<” key on the keypad. Doing so will make the left hearing instrument “active” and the right hearing instrument “inactive”. This will be indicated by a left arrowhead (<) in the display, with the right arrowhead turned off. Next, press “+” or “-“ to adjust volume for the left hearing instrument only.
b.    To adjust volume on the right side only, first press the “>” key on the keypad. Doing so will make the right side “active” and the left side “inactive”. This will be indicated by a right arrowhead (>) in the display with the left arrowhead turned off. Now press “+” or “-“ to adjust volume for the right side only.

How do I return to making changes on both hearing instruments simultaneously?
To return to simultaneous adjustment mode, press either the < or > keys on the keypad until both arrowheads appear in the display, indicating that both hearing instruments are again “active”. Alternatively, press the Home button, which will also reset the Remote Control to simultaneous adjustment mode. Note, however, that the Home button also changes other settings.

    1. Hi Dale. Thank you for contacting ReSound. We’re sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Unite Remote Control. As you have already replaced the batteries, we would suggest re-pairing your hearing aids to make sure that you have the best connection possible. Here are the steps to re-pair.

      1. Open your hearing aid battery doors (We suggest using fresh batteries in your hearing aids)
      2. Remove the battery cover on the Remote Control and locate the red pairing button on the right side.
      3. Turn the Remote Control on and press the red pairing button one time.
      4. Close your hearing battery doors and allow the pairing to complete.

If your Unite Remote Control continues to be unresponsive, we encourage you to contact your hearing care professional and have the remote looked at to ensure it is functioning properly.
