Audiology Awareness Month

Did you know that October is Audiology Awareness Month and National Protect Your Hearing Month?  As hearing care professionals you know how hard it is for individuals to accept hearing loss and take the next step to get help.

October is the perfect time to focus on increasing awareness about the isolation of hearing loss whether it is in your community, via your marketing materials or online via social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, etc).

Some hearing loss facts provided by the American Academy of Audiologists:

  • Approximately 36 million Americans suffer from hearing loss
  • More than half of the people with hearing loss are under the age of 65
  • Untreated hearing loss can affect your ability to understand speech and can negatively impact your social and
emotional well-being—hearing impairment can decrease your quality of life!
  • Hearing loss is the third most common health problem in the United States

What are you doing in your practice or community to promote hearing health?
