Alera Frequently Asked Questions

Since ReSound Alera launched to market in August 2010, we’ve been collecting and logging the most frequently asked questions about Alera.  Over the coming weeks, we’ll be posting Alera FAQs in a number of categories, including:

  • Fitting
  • Surround Sound & Digital Processing
  • Natural Directivity
  • Wireless Accessories
  • RIE and BTE models
  • Custom products

To start with, here are the most commonly asked wireless questions when it comes to Alera.

Will the wireless functions of the hearing instrument interfere with pacemakers or other medical devices?|
No, this deice does not interfere with medical devices.  It will also not be affected by other devices like microwave ovens.

What is the difference between 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz in terms of wireless hearing aids?
Both 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz can transmit without the need for an intermediary device around the neck. 900 MHz is currently available for ear-to-ear transmission due to its long wavelength. But 900 MHz has several disadvantages. It is not an accepted frequency for wireless hearing devices in most countries except the United States. This means that wireless will not work if the hearing aid user travels to countries in which 900 MHz is not approved. Also, it requires a large antenna that cannot be placed within a small hearing aid. It requires then large stations for wireless programming and TV streaming, and small phone clips or other small accessories are not realistic. Finally, 2.4 GHz has better long-term future potential because it runs in the same band as low-energy Bluetooth, an innovation which will require less power and greater range for Bluetooth devices.

Are the hearing aids binaurally synchronized?
No, but you can simultaneously make changes to the hearing aids with the remote control.

If the Bluetooth connection is not in the hearing aids, there where is it located?
The Bluetooth connection is in the Phone Clip.

Perhaps there is a way you can remove me from that service?
    Many thanks!

    1. Hi Amelie,
I’m afraid we don’t have access to that. I would go to WordPress and see if you have a profile because you left a comment and see if you can opt-out there. Sorry, wish we could remove it for you!
